Huntingdonshire fencing club hosted the "County Captain's Four Weapon Team Championship" at One Leisure St. Neots in February 2010. The club entered three teams in the event, which it had won four times between 1986 and 2007.
The "A" Team was Tracey Coates, Womens foil, Richard Sage, Mens foil, Matt Dalton, Epee and Dan Tozer, Sabre.
The "B" team Silvia Earl, Chris Convine, Andrew Brown and Jason Presland.
The "C" Team Lizzie Tozer, Joshua Coates, Ivan Ward and Ian Coates.
In the preliminary seeding round Hunts "A"
destroyed their two opposing teams Northants B and Cambs FC,
defeating both 40 -13 to be seeded no.1 for the direct ellimination.
Continuing in the same
fashion Hunts "A" fenced through the D.E. undefeated beating Northants C
and
Chelmsford on the way to the final against Northants A.
The first two
stages
in the relay based team match were very close with none of the fencers at
womens and mens foil wanting to give any thing away, it was only when the
epeeists took over that Hunts really started to take control so that by
the
time Hunts scored the first four hits in the sabre fight they never
looked
like being defeated and went on to win championship number five by 13
hits.
The other teams had both come through the seeding round with one
victory and one defeat to be ranked "B" no.4. "C" no.6. In the D.E.
Hunts "B" lost to Chelmsford and then beat Northants C, to set up a 5th
place play off with Hunts "C" who had lost to Northants A but then beat
Northants B. In a very close match it was Hunts "C" who came through
victorious to steal 5th place with Hunts "B" 6th.
