Silvia Earl wins Slough Open medal
Silvia came third in the Slough Open Sabre winning all her first round fights and being first seed won her first DE going out to second placed fencer, a great result.
In the Epee Emmanuel Coletti fought through to the last 32 with Jean-Luc doing well reaching last 64 as did Andrew Brown. Snow prevented other members reaching the event.
Silvia qualifies for World Championships
Once again Silvia fenced well at the Age group qualifiers to qualify for Veterans World Chamionships in Epee and Sabre.

Xmas Balloon Competition
Fencers found bursting a balloon using a cocktail stick on the end of a foil more difficult that they thought!
Matt Dalton, Silvia Earl and Andrew Brown win Leeds medals

Matt Dalton finished 2nd to win Silver medal at the Leeds Open Epee with Jean-Luc also doing well in 7th place out of an entry of 60.
Andrew Brown won a silver medal in the Veterans event and Silvia as top Veteran in the women's Epee took home another medal to add to her growing collection.
Silvia also fenced well in the Open Sabre to come a respectable 6th.
George does well at Bedford Open
Jean-Luc beat George Partridge into top club Epeeist position at the Bedford Open coming 13th out of 66. George was undefeated in his first round poule and was seeded equal third with Emmanuel Coletti who has recently joined the club. George went on to win his first DE going out in a close fight in the next to Dale Broadbent 15/12 and ended 18th. Andrew Brown was 37, Tim Bissell 42 and Ivan 56th.
Jean-Luc wins Bedfordshire County Epee
Jean-Luc Janet finished first after a hard fought final against a fencer from Luton, Luke .
Andrew Brown won Bronze in Epee and Silvia Earl came third in both Sabre and Foil loosing only to the winner of each weapon both men.
Club fencers in World Championships
Silvia Earl and Richard Sage fenced in the World Championships in Croatia at the end of September, Silvia fenced in all three weapons coming fifth in Sabre whilst Richard represented GB in Foil in their respective age category.

Ivan awarded at AGM

Club Secretary for nearly 30 years, Ivan Ward was awarded Life Membership of the club in grateful thanks of his dedication to the club over the last 3 decades. He joins two founder members of the club John Dennett and John Offer as life member.

Ian Coates club Chairman
Ian Coates was voted on as new club Chairman as after six years as club chairman Geoff Browne retired at the AGM.
Knee problems have prevented Geoff from attending the club recently.
Matt Dalton leaves for University
Matt Dalton, successful Epeeist, starts at Northumbria University to study "Sports exercise and science" in a degree course, we wish him well
Silvia wins Bronze at Bexley Open
Silvia Earl beat several young fencers to win third place in Epee at the Bexley open in June 2011.
Silvia Earl European Veterans Champion
Silvia Earl has won the Gold Medal in Category 3 for Sabre in the Veterans European Fencing Championships which took place in Henin-Beaumont in France,
Silvia moved to Old Weston in Huntingdon recently and fences at Huntingdon and Cambridge Fencing Club as well as at Bedford where she has sabre lessons from Darren Tee and Jonathan Katz. She fences all three weapons - Epee, Foil and Sabre - but only took up sabre about 6 years ago when she started fencing again after a break of some 20 + years. Since then, when she joined the "Vets" - British Veterans Fencing - her sport has taken her around the world, from Lithuania to New Zealand.

Andrew Brown picked for GB team
Andrew fenced in the GB team in the annual match Great Britain versus Germany in Durham in May.
Club members represent England in four nations in Wrexham in April
Silvia Earl, Richard Sage and Andrew Brown were in the winning team in the home international match in Wales in April, fencing sabre, foil and epee respectively, England retaining the Justin Smith trophy.
Matt Dalton Wins Nottingham Open
Mat has won the John Warburn trophy at the Nottingham Open in March, out of an entry of 78 Matt joined an elite list of winners of this trophy named after an RAF man who died in a fencing accident in the 1980's.

Hunts Fencing Club wins again "County Captains 4 Weapon Team Championship"
The competition attracted entries from all over the eastern region including clubs from Norwich, Chelmsford, Northampton and Great Yarmouth.
Hunts entered three teams, the "A" team, winners last year were Tracey Coates, Richard Sage, Matt Dalton and Dan Tozer. The "B" team Silvia Earl, Joshua Coates, Andrew Brown and Ian Coates and the "C" team Keeley Hill, Chris Convine, Jean-Luc Janet and Jason Presssland. After the preliminary seeding round the B team were ranked 10th the C team an exellent 3rd and the A team number one seeds.
In the direct ellimination rounds both B and C teams went out against Bedford and the Norwich based Affondo F C to finish 10th and 6th . The A team in a repeat of last years success beat Cambridge FC 40 - 19 in the quarter finals, Northampton FC 34 - 18 in the semi finals and Chelmsford Regional University FC 40 - 13 in the final th retain the championship and take the gold medals

Matt came 5th out of 120 fencers at Epee at the
Slough Open in February, an excellent result.
Youngsters win medals!
At the CFA Spring Junior Team Championship, our only U11 fencer Gage Levens-Wager joined forces with two
All For One FC fencers. They lost only one match in the competition to take second place and the silver medals in Gage's first competition.
Also in his first competition Tim Novice and Kerian Presland were joined by Robin Webb of
Cambridge Sword in the U13 event. They fenced undefeated to take the U13 Championship and the
gold medals.
Mike Ellis received award from Bury St Edmunds club
Mike Ellis received an ornate basket handled rapier from the club upon his retirement as coach and for his work in founding and chairing the club for many years.
The sword was was presented by Robin Parkes (Club Armourer), who is the longest serving club member and one of the original members. Mike was the coach who originally taught Robin to fence and has remained his coach since then.

Richard qualifies for World Championships again!
Foil: Richard Sage won silver medal at Vets qualifier competition January 2011 in a tough poule unique of 13 fencers loosing only to the winner.
Andrew Brown came 8th in the epee poule of 13.

Mat Wins Silver at Cambridge
A large turnout of Epeeists from the club on Saturday 15th January at the Cambridge Winter Warmer ensured good results and another Silver medal for Mat Dalton following his summer training in Germany.
Next highest were Andrew Brown at 22nd, Jean-Luc 24th.

County Age Group Foil, U11, U13, U16
In the U16 event Joshua Lloyd-Braden won five of his 10 fights to finish 5th. Harry Brindle won 7 from 10 to take the bronze medal a repeat of last seasons result while Edward Sage won eight
from ten to take silver. In the under 13 event Jack Given , in his first competition won 6 fights from eleven to take 5th place. Keiran Presland who like Edward and Jack only started fencing the previous January fenced through the event undefeated (in fact none of his opponents scored more than two hits on him) to become Autumn junior Under thirteen champion.
Andrew Brown wins Silver
At the Veterans Middlesex Unisex Epee Andrew, in a poule unique of 18 fencers, emerged with equal victories with Dale Broadbent. After an exciting fight off Dale won 5/4.

Matt Dalton wins Ashton
Matt has won this years Ashton open epee, following his summer training camp in Germany, he Fenced undefeated all day beating last years winner in the final to take his first Open Championship.

Dan Tozer retains County Master at Arms
Dan Tozer retained County Master at Arms with a silver medal in the sabre championship. Jason Presland's 6th place gave him runner-up spot in Master at Arms.
Andrew Brown wins Silver for Scotland
Fencing in the Celtic Challenge in Cornwall in Team Scotland, Andrew beat a strong field including first seed Robin Davenport, to take individual Silver and help the epee team to second place.
He also fenced in the Foil team which took 3rd place.

Richard Sage & Andrew Brown fence in GB European Team
Richard fenced in the GB foil team and Andrew in the epee at the end of May in Macedonia, fencing 15 other nations against strong opposition including several World Champions from Russia and Italy.

Bronze for Richard Sage
Members Richard Sage and Ivan Ward had a mixed week-end of successes at the Eastern Region Individual Championships held in Thetford.
On Saturday 22nd May in Men's foil Richard won all of his seeding round fights to be ranked no 2 for the direct elimination rounds.
Richard continued in the same manner going on to win his last 16 fight 15-0 and his 1/4 final 15-10 before losing to eventual winner R. Ingleson (Cambridge Sword)11-15
to finish 3rd.
Ivan's start in Sundays epee competition couldn't have been more different, victories eluded him in the seeding round that left him way down the ranking. Thankfully the D.E. saw a different fencer taking out the no.7 seed 15-6 to earn a 1/4 final place eventually going out 8-15 to finish 8th.

Open Epee competition Saturday 22nd May Moulton College, Northampton with round of poules and then into teams for DE.
Andrew Brown was in team who came 2nd and Silvia Earl 4th, fencers included a number from twinned town Marburg.

Hunts A team wins Cambridge team event!.
Huntingdonshire fencing club hosted the "County Captain's Four Weapon Team
Championship" at One Leisure St. Neots in February 2010. The club entered three
teams in the event, which it had won four times between 1986 and 2007. The
"A" Team was Tracey Coates, Womens foil, Richard Sage, Mens foil, Matt
Dalton, Epee and Dan Tozer, Sabre.
